Centro Gran Caribe shopping center opened in November 19, 1987 under the name Plaza Caribe (North Phase) and underwent remodeling and expansion in 1999 to add a new section called Centro Grand Caribe Sur (South Phase). On November 23, 1999, Centro Gran Caribe inaugurated its expansion, including a bridge that crosses Road 676 and joins the north and south sections of the shopping center. The enclosed bridge features glass walls and has a number of retail pushcartss and entertainment equipment. Centro Gran Caribe’s south wing features a Kmart anchor store, and over 40 additional stores and El Palmar Food Court, which includes innovative architectural details. In addition, there are seven Caribbean Cinema theaters next to El Palmar Food Court. Centro Gran Caribe shopping mall has 420,000 square feet of retail space, over 100 stores, modern architecture featuring high ceilings and skylights, over 2,000 parking spaces and 24-hour security service.
Since 2007, Centro Gran Caribe is owned and manage by CCVA, Inc. which form part of Centros Comerciales de PR, engaged in the business of leasing and managing shopping centers in Puerto Rico.
Centros Comerciales de PR also owned: Santa María Shopping Center in Guaynabo, Laguna Gardens Shopping Center and Villa Fontana both in Carolina, La Quinta Shopping Center in San German, Salinas Shopping Center in Salinas and Plaza Ceiba Shopping Center in Ceiba.
Centro Gran Caribe is located along both State Road 2 and Road 676, at the intersection with State Road 678 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, eighteen miles west of San Juan. Situated on 27.5 acres, and is comprised of two phases, North and South, consisting of approximately 420,000 square feet of leasable retail area.
